Mental and behavioural disorders & Homoeopathy

World Mental Health Day
10 October 2011

This year’s theme is “investing in mental health

Mental and behavioural disorders are found in people of all regions, all countries and all societies. Recent analyses by the World Health Organization show that at any point in time has an aggregate prevalence is about 10% for adults. About 450 million people in the world were estimated to be suffering from neuropsychiatric conditions. These disorders not only affect the patients and their families but also adversely impact on the country’s productivity and economy
According to Ganguli, the national prevalence rates for `all mental disorders' arrived at are 70.5 (rural), 73 (urban) and 73 (rural + urban) per 1000 population (15). At various times most people experience anxiety, depression, sleeps disturbance, and somatic preoccupation. In most cases, such symptoms are transient, and their precipitating causes are upcoming examination, a new job, marriage, and divorce and family problems, in these instances reassuring the patient by physician the symptoms will become transient and situational. Diagnostic criteria for a diagnosis of psychiatric disorders depend up on the, family history of similar symptoms, symptoms consistent with the natural history of a psychiatric disorder. Emotional symptoms associated with specific situations are usually classified as reactions to the situation do not usually become psychiatric disorders. Person's personality is important, obsessive, passive, or antisocial personality traits are few examples .When these characteristics interfere with the individual's ability to function, the condition is regarded as a personality disorder.
In Homoeopathic system knowingly or unknowingly we are tackling the psychological illness whether it is due to physical cause or social cause. We give importance to mental symptoms; temperaments etc. success rate is comparatively good.
Mental diseases are one - side diseases of Psoric origin where the predominant alteration is in the mental faculty of the individual. The following are the types. (I) Following the decline of corporeal or physical symptoms, the disease seems to localize to the mind with predominant mental symptoms (ii) Mental diseases appearing suddenly precipitated by sudden fright, grief (iii) Mental diseases of doubtful origin where the disease results from faults of education, corrupt morals, superstition etc (iV) Mental diseases due to prolonged worry, anxiety, fear which later on may affect the physical health of the individual.

Anantagiri hills example Ecotourism

Anantagiri hills are near Vikarabad of Ranga reddy district, A P, it’s a real example Ecotourism, where we can see flora, fauna, and cultural heritage. In Nizam State they have established a very big T B Sanatorium at the midst of forest.  Famous temple “Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple” is situated at hill top.
I have a special attachment that I studied 2nd class at Mission Scholl, Vikarabad when my father was head of the T B Sanatorium.

A case of Carcinosin

A patient aged 50 years ,male, 73-3 KGs weight , occupation business, diet was non veg, came to my clinic on 8th Jan 2011, with  a  stubborn fungal growth  on middle figure  (as diagnosed by dermatologist ) as shown in visual  ,  area was very sensitive , pain on folding,
on 8th Jan 2011Bacillinum 1M One dose, Rubrum for 15 days was given, without any benefit, AS he was a business man   he was feeling guilty to sit in the counter , fingers were very sensitive  to touch  both the symptoms were present  in both  Lachesis  and Cyclamen europaeum, Lachesis  0/1  for 11 days followed by  15 days  Rubrum  was given  there was no relief and Lachesis  0/3  were given for 11 days followed by  15 days  Rubrum  was given without any benefit. Since 3 months there was no improvement, I asked patient to get biopsy of the lesion, for which he agreed and the report is as show in the visual.  The nosological diagnosis was not clear clinically and even in the biopsy report diagnosis options were Tuberculosis Verrucosa cutis, Lupus Vulganus, and Scrofuloderma.
As a last resort on 24/03/11.  Carcinosin 1M was given, and Rubrum for 15 days were given to my surprise lesion was less by fifty percent, Rubrum for 15 days was given, he came after a month with a smooth figure as shown in visual .This was  turning point.

Carcinosin is made from cancerous tissue, usually obtained from the breast. Carcinosin is best suited to people who were shy, over sympathetic, and hypersensitive during childhood, People who benefit most from the remedy may have a strong craving for fatty foods, especially butter and chocolate. Carcinosin may be prescribed for those who have a personal or family history of cancer, diabetes, or tuberculosis. Skin growths and blemishes - multiple moles and blemishes, acne on the back and chest, or boils. There may be itching and a tendency to bruise or bleed easily 1

Psoriasis (Guttate) treated with Natrum Muraticum

The Guttate form of psoriasis is the second most common form of psoriasis. About 2% of those with psoriasis have the Guttate type. This type of psoriasis is more common in children and adults younger than 30 years. In US, the Guttate form of psoriasis is relatively uncommon, occurring in less than 2% of the psoriatic population.6

Conclusion:
Nat. Mur. Is a deep acting, long acting remedy? It gave good result in the above case. There was gradual improvemt as show in the visual taken from 24/09/06 to 15/06/07. Even recurrent pharyngitis was cured. Except the intensity of irritability all the 8 symptoms were relived. This evidenced based example how homoeopathy can cure a rare varity of Guttate psoriasis. The Psoriasis Area Severity Index also came down.
