Dr T Seshachari memorial oration was held at A P Homoeopathic Association, Hyderabad, on 26th Feb 2012 on Self Management , Prof (Lt Col) Dayakar Thota delivered the oration

Self Management

By

Prof (Lt Col) Dayakar Thota

Dear Friends1

We are aware of the managerial resources of an organisation and the need to optimally utilise them to achieve maximum productivity. There are any number of books, courses and teachers to enlighten us on the management of organisations. There are highly paid post-graduates from IIMs & ISBs engaged to run these organisations effectively and efficiently.

Our Human Body itself is a wonderful organisation gifted to us by the Almighty Architect of the world. Did you ever ponder over the complex nature of our body with all its material systems and the invisible faculties? In what a beautiful synchronised way all the systems in our body function in unison? Have we made any conscientious efforts to assess and monitor the resources at our disposal and try to optimise their utilisation? Did we ever look at our body as a machine and look at its use co-efficient?

On the other hand, is there any one amongst us who doesn’t want to be successful in Life? Does anyone intentionally invite Failure in one’s own Life? The answer definitely is a big NO.

If we want to be successful in our Life, we must use all resources at our command optimally. To start with, we should first be aware of the quality & quantity of these resources. Let us quickly see what are the resources which every one of us possess in varying measures.

o The Physical abilities.

o The Intellectual abilities.

o The Emotional abilities.

o The Time at our disposal.

The first three may differ in quantum & quality from person to person, BUT the Time Resource doesn’t vary. The Almighty had given the beggars on the street and the Birlas in bungalows the same amount of time – 24 hrs a day, 60 minutes to an hour and 60 seconds to a minute and so on. Time is the most perishable thing on the planet – every other thing’s perishability is measured in relation to time only. There are only Debit entries in the ledger of Time - No Credits. One is born with a definite quota of his / her time and till it lasts the Year/ Month/ Day/ Hour etc are the same for everyone. People differ in how they control the expenditure of this rare resource - TIME. Whether they pre-plan and spend their time knowingly or dwindle it away is their own choice.

First and foremost, a person who wants to succeed in Life must know the definition of success for self. None others can define the meaning of success for You. The realisation of this success state should be your Goal. When you imagine the resultant state, you must feel happy and should continue to desire it. Does it sound paradoxical? Let me explain. Nothing comes free in this world- you need to forego something to get something else. There are no Roses without thorns. Whatever position you arrive at different stages of your life there shall be some pros some cons to stay put in that state. If the resultant balance still makes you desire that state, then that is your goal or measure of your success.

Imagination alone shall not get you your success. You need to plan and put in efforts in the right direction to achieve your goals. You may need assistance or guidance from others. Do not seek advice of people who had not travelled in the same path. You should seek the guidance of the people who are already successful in the field you intend to. They are the right people to guide you as they had already traversed the path you intend to take up.

You should carry out a SWOT analysis of your own self and be aware of your strengths and weaknesses and the opportunities and threats in the environment. None of us operate in vacuum or isolation. We are influenced by the economic, scientific, political and other environmental factors in which we operate. Having gained knowledge one’s own capabilities, assess whether they good enough to achieve your goals. If not, try to acquire those strengths which shall take you to your goals. Have practical goals – may be ambitious BUT achievable. Be pragmatic in selection of your goals.

Do not lose sight of your goals. In all your conscious states your goals should be uppermost in your mind. Like the advertisement – Drink Coca cola, Eat Coca cola and Sleep Coca cola, you should be eating drinking and sleeping with your goals always on top of your mind. You should fall in love with your Goals.

You must supplement the above with ACTION towards achieving the Goal. Every step you take and every small action you take must take you an inch closer to your goals. Do not get perturbed by minor obstacles – learn to circumvent them – BUT never lose your Goal. Analyse what are the activities you need to undertake to reach your goals. You may have to draw up a long term plan and devise short term plans dovetailed into the long term – all leading t o your goals.

Do not be scared away by initial failures. Failures should be seen as learning experiences. One should learn lessons from own failures and try to avoid repeating the same mistakes time and again. An intelligent man learns from other’s mistakes; an average man learns from his own mistakes; a FOOL never learns from any body’s mistake. I am sure you do not wnat to be out in the last category.

If you select your goals properly, equip yourself adequately, seek guidance from appropriate persons, if need be, do not let the Goals drop out from your conscious thoughts and put in your sincere efforts in the right direction , NOTHING is going to stop you from attaining your objectives. The Success is going to be yours – none can take it away from you. Never allow doubts of failure enter your mind. Always think of positive outcome. The battles are won or lost in the minds of commanders much before they are fought.

BE WINNER- ACT NOW.

ACUTE EMERGENCIES AND HOMOEOPATHIC MANAGEMENT

Dr.P.V.S.N.Prasad, D.H.M.S.,M.D.

A TRUTH, ON ANY PLANE, PRESENTED TO DIFFERENT MEN, IS ACCEPTED OR REJECTED BY EACH ACCORDING TO THE GOOD OR EVIL OF HIS MIND. ______KENT

It is a misconception among the public as well as the profession especially youngsters that Homoeopathy is more effective in chronic disorders rather than in acute disorders. From time immemorial Homoeopathy has proved its efficacy in all sorts of acute disorders including those diseases pronounced to be incurable by the other systems of medicine.

Though most of the physicians are interested in the treatment of chronic disorders only, certainly there are some occasions where one has to meet emergencies like epidemics, injuries or even acute exaggerations of chronic disorders. One may simply send the case to other systems of medicine but if we are confident of treating the acute episode, surely it will be reward by way of getting more patients to our treatment along with monetary reward.

To treat emergencies is very easy when compared to chronic ones since the symptomatology is very clear and the response to the drug can be assessed within a few hours. If one can fix the ‘Genus Epidemicus’ it becomes easier to treat the acute diseases which also help to prevent the disease and gain confidence of the patients. To give few examples, Verat alb has cured hundreds of cases of diarrhoea and vomiting for more than ten years. Hyos has cured more than twenty five direct cases of ‘Japan B. Viral Encephalitis’ in epidemics including a case of ‘Post-Encephalitis Sequelae’ with the same drug while the government supplied Bell, Calc carb and Tuberc to prevent the disease throughout the state. Only 4 cases are cured during the first outbreak of Japan B. Viral Encephalitis’ in 1979. The cases recovered rapidly without any sequelae left behind. For many years I found Bell is ‘Genus Epidemicus’ for fevers of respiratory origin and Ars alb for ‘Enteric

fevers in our region.

Treating acute emergencies will demand thorough knowledge of all subjects, close observation of the patient and the art of administering the medicine without any delay by way of consulting the Repertory or Materia Medica. One can find a few drugs which are necessary for day today practice by treating the same with constant observation and application of our system.

Emergencies in acute practice include Pain, Fever, Collapse, and Bleeding from various orifices, various Animal bites, Injuries, Burns and Convulsions etc. Let us discuss these points in detail. I shall give the therapeutic part only, stressing the important guidelines for the selection of the remedy.
